What a difference ten years makes.
It was exactly ten years ago today that the very first image of David was uploaded to Renderotica. I had been working on him for three months, purely intending him to be for my own pleasure, when I ran across this site, and wondered whether it would be worthwhile to share an image of my project. Truthfully, I did want to hear "oohs" and "aahs", but I never expected the impact, and the extent of that impact, that he would have on so many people, and the friends and acquaintances I would meet.
What you see above is the actual scene, "David 01" that I posted ten years ago. Happily, it survived the accidental drop of my backup hard drive several years ago. Thus, I was able to insert the David of August 2012 next to the David of August 2002.
This has been perhaps the most fun thing I've ever done, the most surprising thing I've ever devoted myself to, and one of the most rewarding, both for myself, and for others. The ongoing challenge of refining him and clothing him has been a joyous frustration.
Cheers to the last ten years, to all the changes that newer technology and continued learning have brought, and let us look forward to much more of the same in the years to come. Thank you so much.
